Newly appointed Sindh Energy Minister, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah has said that some 500,000 households in Sindh don’t have electricity as they would be energised using the option of solar power.
Talking to media persons on Monday, the new Sindh Energy Minister said that solar parks would be built in different cities to provide free-of-charge electricity to the underprivileged power consumers in the province.
He informed media persons that different options were being considered to fulfil the election campaign promise of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari of providing 300 units of electricity free of charge to the destitute power consumers.
He mentioned that as per the rules of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority, the provinces were not allowed to build solar energy projects having more than 50 MW generation capacity.
He said the Sindh government desired that the concerned federal authorities should allow the provinces to set up solar power parks that have 500 or 1,000 MW generation capacity.
To a question, he said the Pakistan People’s Party had always given preference to its loyal and committed workers while awarding tickets to contest the polls.
To another question, Shah said that Yousuf Raza Gilani would be the PPP’s candidate for election to the office of Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan.
He said that President Asif Ali Zardari was very kindhearted in his political dealings with everyone.
